How to Stay Motivated and Inspired While Working Remotely

Nicola Day

Sunshine

Hey there! Working from home can feel like a dream come true with all the flexibility it offers, let's be real - it's not all sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes, all you can see is a mountain of laundry and a blank screen, and finding the motivation to tackle work can be tough. But fear not, I've got some tips to help you stay motivated and inspired even when your office is just a few steps away from your bedroom.

Create a Dedicated Remote Work Space

Remote work

First things first, you need a designated workspace that's separate from your personal space. For me, it's a cosy corner in my kitchen where I can soak up some natural light and wave at my neighbours. My desk is my daily haven - organised with all of my essentials, adorned with photos of loved ones, and equipped with a comfy chair to support me through those long hours.

Establish a Daily Routine

Consistency is key when you're working form home. I start my day at 9 am sharp, armed with a to-do list that helps me stay on track. But let's be real, it's easy to get distracted by the kitchen calling out for a snack break. That's why I schedule regular breaks throughout the day to keep me focused and refreshed.

Set Realistic Goals

Goal

Setting achievable goals is crucial for staying motivated. I break down my tasks into smaller chunks and tackle them one by one. Remember, it's all about working smarter, not harder!

Find Your Sources of Inspiration

Podcast

We all have different things that inspire us. Whether it's listening to a podcast, scrolling through motivational quotes, or watching inspiring Ted Talks, find what works for you and incorporate it into your daily routine.

Take Regular Breaks

Forest Walk

Don't forget to give yourself some downtime. I start my day with meditation to clear my mind and take short breaks throughout the day to recharge. And nothing beats a refreshing walk in the forest at the end of the day to unwind.

Stay Connected with Colleagues

Stay connected

Working from home can feel isolating, but it doesn't have to be. Reach out to colleagues for virtual coffee breaks or join a virtual quiz to stay connected. It's important to have some human interaction throughout the day.

Practice Self Care

Self-care

Self-care should be non-negotiable. Whether it's going for a run, indulging in a good book, or treating yourself to a bubble bath, make sure to carve out time for yourself. Remember, you can't pour from an empty cup.

Celebrate Achievements

Achievements

Don't forget to celebrate your wins, big or small. Take a moment to acknowledge your progress and pat yourself on the back. You deserve it!

Conclusion

Working from home is a skill that takes time and commitment to master. By creating a dedicated workspace, establishing a daily routine, setting realistic goals, finding inspiration, taking breaks, staying connected, practicing self-care, and celebrating achievements, you can stay motivated and inspired even on the toughest days.

As Alex Turnbull wisely said, "Successfully working from home is a skill, just like programming, designing, or writing. It takes time and commitment to develop that skill, and the traditional office culture doesn't give us any reason to do that."
